This agreement applies whenever you book a surf lesson, guided surf, surf camp, or hire boards, leashes, fins, or related equipment through East Lombok Surf Villas. A copy is completed with guests in person before their first session or equipment hire.
1. What This Covers
This agreement is completed once per stay, in person, before your first session or equipment hire.
- Surf lessons, guided surfs, and Sunday to Sunday camps.
- Hire of boards, leashes, fins, and related equipment.
- Transfers by road or boat to and from surf breaks.
2. Risks You Accept
Surfing carries inherent risks, including but not limited to:
- Serious injury, and in rare cases death.
- Waves, currents, rips, and wind that can change without warning.
- A shallow, sharp reef, which can cause cuts, fractures, or head injury.
- Collision with your board, other surfers, or their boards and fins.
- Being held under, exhaustion, cramp, dehydration, or sunburn.
- Marine life and coral.
- A leash, fin, or board failing during use.
- Limited medical care in this remote location — evacuation to a proper hospital may take hours, and specialist treatment may require transfer to another island or country at your own cost.
By taking part, you do so voluntarily, with knowledge of the risks above.
3. Guest Confirmations
Before taking part, you confirm that:
- You are fit to surf the sessions you have booked.
- You can swim 50 metres unaided in open water.
- You are comfortable being held under by a breaking wave.
- You have described your surfing experience honestly.
- You are not affected by alcohol or drugs.
You are also asked to disclose any relevant medical conditions, injuries, allergies, medication, or pregnancy before your first session.
4. Insurance
East Lombok Surf Villas does not provide medical insurance and cannot meet the cost of your treatment or evacuation. We recommend arranging your own travel and medical insurance before arrival.
5. Your Responsibilities
- Follow the guides' instructions, including when they call conditions unsafe or move a session.
- Stay in the agreed area. Do not surf alone, at night, or against advice.
- Tell the team at once if you are unwell, in difficulty, injured, or see someone else in trouble.
- Surf with care for others and observe surf etiquette.
- Do not surf under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Use the safety equipment provided or recommended.
The team may end a session or refuse participation on safety grounds. A session ended for safety or weather will be replaced where we reasonably can.
6. Equipment & Damage
- Boards and equipment remain the property of East Lombok Surf Villas.
- Check equipment when it is issued and raise any problem before taking it out.
- Use it yourself only — do not lend or pass it on.
- Rinse it and return it to the racks; never leave it in the sun, on rocks, or unattended.
- Return it on time and in the condition issued, fair wear and tear excepted.
- Report damage, loss, or theft before leaving.
You will be charged the reasonable cost of repair, or replacement if it cannot be repaired, for damage or loss caused by negligence or misuse. You will not be charged for fair wear and tear, damage occurring despite reasonable care, or equipment already faulty when issued. The same applies to the villas, their fittings and contents, and to any guests you bring on site.
7. Other Terms
- Under 18: a parent or guardian must give consent and stay contactable during sessions.
- Emergency: if you cannot consent, staff may arrange first aid, treatment, and transport at your cost. Your emergency contact will be called as soon as practical.
- Photos: guests may opt in or out of us using images of them, and can change this at any time.
- Data: your information is used only to run sessions safely, reach your emergency contact, and record equipment — never sold or used for marketing.
- Law: this agreement is governed by Indonesian law, and any dispute is subject to Indonesian courts.
Nothing here removes any liability of East Lombok Surf Villas that cannot be excluded under Indonesian law, including Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection, or relieves us of responsibility for failing to take reasonable care. Agreeing to this does not give up any rights the law gives you.
